VMFA: Futures

Workhouse Arts Center- Vulcan Gallery

9518 Workhouse Rd, Lorton VA

Reception: 6-8pm, July 14, 2018

On View: May 19- August 5, 2018

Workhouse Arts Center is pleased to present VMFA: Futures showcasing a select group of artists joining the 2018-2019 Fellowship Program at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia. This lucid presentation is comprised of a broad selection of humanizing works of ingenuity which liven the art landscape through sculpture, videography, painting, photography and new media.

Though this exhibition highlights emerging talent, it also explores a common thread amongst the artists’ work each embodying a provocative storyline referencing human behavior, perception and a sense of existing between two different areas. Between their native country and America; between absence and presence; between humor and patheticism; between gentle and abrasion; and between structure and freedom. Reflecting the bold versatility of these artists’ oeuvre, VMFA: Futures examines the response to being in a place of transition while identifying nine potential future leaders in the art world.
